The Afro Caribbean Dancers

The Afro-Caribbean Dance Group was formed in 1970 under the direction of Sid Kirwan. They soon fell under the leadership of Aston Jess, Gladstone Jones, Errol Bryan, Sonia Adams, and others.

Both male and female performers help to make the Afro-Caribbean dancers a vivacious group. Their enthusiasm, imaginative choreography and high standard of excellence have helped them to earn an enviable reputation wherever they perform.

Versatility is reflected through their dances which are African and Caribbean in nature. The dance group is made up of a number of talented people.

The Afro-Caribbean Dance Group is an ongoing group of the Afro-Caribbean Association of Manitoba Inc. (ACAM). Some of the strengths of the group stems from its youths who continue to dance and teach incoming dancers to work with younger members.

The dancers perform at conventions, sporting events, banquets and other special occasions. They can also be enjoyed at the Africa Caribbean Pavilion during Winnipeg’s Folklorama Festival.

The most commendable aspect of the history of the ACAM Dancers is the sacrifice of time and effort of its members.
